Special Needs
Moxie is a diabetic.
Moxie's diabetes wasn't diagnosed until she came into rescue. It has taken us two months to regulate Moxie's food intake and insulin dosage. Dogs that are diabetic must be on a strict diet and insulin dosage. Sudden changes in either can be life threatening. Molly eats at 8:00 am and 8:00 pm followed by her in insulin injection. No snacks!
Moxie's cost break down for food, insulin, needles, and keto stripes per month: approximate $236
APupAbove - Pork 2 bags per month ($75.00 per bag) $150
Insulin - Vetsulin U40 10ml (lasts for 42 days - $75) $50
Syringes - 100 count box (lasts for 50 days -$50) $35
Keto stripes - 150 count (lasts for 10 months ($10) $1
*We try to get her food on sale $50 per bag and you may be able to get insulin and syringes cheaper - we
buy from our vet.
Adoption Fee
$350
My Story
Moxie is a total sweetheart but timid. Moxie is a gentle, easy-going dachshund. Once Moxie trusts her human/humans she will bond very strongerly. Moxie does seem to love everyone ... young or old but young children with their loud voices and quick movement frighten Moxie therefore we are recommending a quieter less active home with adults only or adults with teenagers. Moxie loves to cuddle with her humans, bask in the sun, play with toys, go on car rides, and be ouside sniffing around. Moxie does fine with other dogs. she would do best with other smaller older less active canine buddies. She can be an only dog too. Moxie consistently uses a pee pad inside to go potty however she will also go outdoors consistently if you have a fenced yard. Like most dachshunds Moxie tends to be a fair weather girl. Moxie is crate trained. At night Moxie sleeps in a crate right next to her foster mom.
Moxie is spayed and uptodate on vaccines - Rabies, Distemper, and bordetella. Her fecal and HW Tests were negative for parasites. Moxie had a dental with 8 extractions and 4 missing teeth. Moxie does have several health issues - a heart murmur but she is not taking any medication, 2 luxating patellas, and a diabetic.
