My Story

Buddy is a moderately active 16lb 10yo male who was brought to a shelter to be put down for a protective bite guarding a baby. A change in environment, breed knowledgeable humans, lots of love and patience is all he needs to thrive. Buddy is very friendly, follows his foster humans everywhere, and gives lots of kisses. He lights up with excitement and comes running to give hugs, cuddle, and climbs all over your lap.

He is very sweet and tends to be happy to greet most people with barks, tail wags, kisses, and even picked up for cuddles. However, he does have a few protective moments with resource guarding his foster mom and teen sister leading to a low growl at foster dad if he tries to move quickly to pick him up from their laps. While he has not done anything more than a low growl at his foster home, it would be best for him to find a home with adult only or teenagers and older so that his humans understand to give space and know how to handle these situations positively.

Buddy isn’t into toys but loves yak cheese chews and bones. He does well on a leash and loves walking and exploring outside. He especially loves to hide under blankets, cuddle on your lap on the couch, and sleep in the big bed at night. He is house trained but has had a few minor accidents while adjusting to a routine. He has gone on a few car rides but can become overly stimulated and excited with all the new things to see.

Buddy enjoys following his doxie foster siblings and cuddling, he really hasn’t played with them. He prefers buddies that are calm, not aggressive, not an alpha, and more laid back. However he could also be a solo dog as long as his human is home most of the time.

Buddy was not previously crate trained so it’s been a learning curve and work in progress while at his foster home. He can become a bit destructive and anxious when crated, but with modifications and a routine, he has improved and is slowly learning. Overall, he does best just having free rein. Buddy wants to be with you constantly and would do best with a family who is retired or working from home to provide structure and continue to work with him. Please do not apply if you are away from the home more than 4-5 hours on a regular basis (once in a while is fine).

Spread the word about this lovable doxie!
