Augie is a sweet boy. Even though he is deaf he has adapted to the world. Unlike many deaf dogs Augie is not at all reactive when someone walks up behind him to pick him up. Our biggest problem with Augie is he does come when called or told no ... it is a hard habit to break and remember so other means to get his attention need to be created. Augie is very loving and affectionate dachshund. He LOVES to snuggle up close and give lots of kisses. Augie seems to love everyone young or old. He would do best however if he were in a less active forever home with out young children that could possibly accidently injury him. Augie loves to run or explore outdoors especially in a fenced yard but also enjoys playing with chew joys that squeak. Augie is housetrained sorta. He goes pee and poop outdoors always. He will even bark if he is in a crate to tell you that he needs to potty but he will also pee in his crate too never poop. We believe with time and patience peeing in a crate will be less and less. Augie is crate trained and must be crated whenever someone is not home or unable to watch him because he is a jumper. At night Augi LOVES to sleep in the BIG BED under the covers up close to his human.

Augie is a neutered deaf double dapple dachshund that is up to date on vaccines - Rabies, Distemper, and  Bordetella. His fecal and HW test were negative for parasites. While under rescue care Augie fratured his Right Olecranonn leg. He had surgury at Vet Specialty Center on 6/11/2026 where Dr. Robins placed a metal plate and 5 screws in his leg. Audie was quite the trooper - for 8 weeks he was under strict crate rest ... he was only allowed to be out of a crate to eat or go potty. Every Wednesday Augie would also go to the vet for his leg to be re-splited and evaluated x-rayed, etc. It has been several weeks since he has been released. He is done just fine but we do have to watch him ... at times we think he thinks he is SUPER DOG!
