Why Sponsor a Dog?

Tater

Sponsorship allows someone to be part of improving the quality of a foster's life vicariously. Not everyone can foster and care for an animal in their environment. The sponsorship program allows a person to participate in care and recovery without physically caring for the animal. So many of the dogs coming into rescue are in desperate need of extensive vetting due to years of neglect. By choosing to sponsor, you have given these wonderful creatures a second chance in life. The older senior dogs are usually most needy, they arrive underweight with, heart and kidney problems some caused by no dental care. You will have an opportunity to see the transformation as it unfold, you we be kept informed of the dogs progress by the foster families. Because the dog is kept in their foster home until their medical condition is stable, sometimes that can equate to many months of vetting, constant blood work, for diseases like diabetes, epilepsy, and Cushing disease, cost can run into the thousands. In addition to the common diseases, we see many back injured animals, some needing surgery and extensive rehab. Back surgery and rehab could total 5-6 thousand dollars for one dog.

Currently in the US approx one dog is euthanized every 6.5 seconds, can you find it in your heart to give only a little to make the difference in one dogs life, even a small monthly donation can make a difference.

SPECIAL NEEDS FOSTER
NASH

PLEASE SPONSOR ME

Rescued on: 06-20-08
Located in: Whiting, IN
Description: Red Smooth Tweenie
(13 lbs)
Gender: Male
Age: 2 years
Medical issues:
Severe Hydrocephalus
Info:
Nash is neutered and up to date on his vetting. Nash has been diagnosed with hydrocephalus. Which is a build up of cerebral spinal fluid within the ventricles of the brain. This is a serious condition with many unknowns in the future, he currently does not have seizures but may develop them, he is not able to be potty trained effectively at this time, due to increased pressure in the brain which causes loss of cognitive function and inappropriate responses to being picked up and held. He does mirror other dogs but at a much slower pace than normal. He currently isn't on medication but that may change after he has an MRI to determine the severity of the hydrocephalus. There is a great likelihood that he will develop seizures. His future is unknown. One thing we do know is he will always be Special Needs.

Update:7/27-MRI was done and he has a confimed diagnosis of severe hydrocephalus, he will be treated medically with comfort measures, his prognosis is poor. Nash needs your sponsorship for his on-going medical care. He has had one seizure and will likely have more. His bills are over the $2000.00 mark and will continue growing

Update:8/8-Nash is doing well so far on medical management. He does appear to have purposeful actions, and will now follow his foster family. He does respond to his name, and hasn't had anymore seizures. He condition continues to be carefully monitored by the neurologist and his foster homes. Currently he is stable with some improvement.

Update:9/14 Nash continues to amaze us, he now sleeps with his foster mom or dad, will let us hold him for short periods and has not had any siezures.

Update: 10/14 Nash is still holding his own, he is on a reduced dose of medication, and currently is maintaining.

SPECIAL NEEDS FOSTER
LOUIE

PLEASE SPONSOR ME

Rescued on: 09-09-08
Located in: Palatine, Il
Description: Black & Tan Smooth
(21 lbs)
Gender: Male
Age: 7 years
Medical issues:
Health concerns: Louie has asymptomatic Cushing's disease that may require treatment in the future. We are hopeful that weight loss will help delay that possibility. He has a herniated disk in his back that causes periodic pain and may require medication at times.

Louie went down in his back on October 22 and had emergency surgery on October 23 at the Veterinary Specialty Center by Dr. Claude Gendreau. He had Disc Herniation T12-T13 they also did fenestrate before and after. Louie did not come out walking like most dogs but when I pinched his toes he pulled back so we know that he does have some feeling. He is going to need lots of rehab and lots of tender loving care. Please keep Louie in your prayers!

Info:
Louie is a sweet, plump little fellow that is looking for a family to love. He likes to be close to people, and enjoys being held and cuddled. He is playful and energetic. He sleeps in his little bed next to the folks' at night. He barks at strange sounds, but quiets down when he gets used to things. He enjoys walks. He isn't too crazy about getting into a car, but is fine once he's inside. He enjoys a chewy, and likes to play a gentle game of fetch. Unfortunately, he shouldn't play roughly due to his back problems. He likes to lay on the ball and "hide" it between tosses. Louie shouldn't do stairs and should never be allowed to jump from furniture.

He is mostly housebroken, and is getting better. It might be best to confine him to a laundry room if you will be away for a while. He is not used to being crated.

Louie is affectionate with older children, and has been fine with the few toddlers he has encountered. He gets along great with other dogs, but doesn't like cats. Louie stays pretty close in the yard, but will chase rabbits if he gets a chance. He is trying to lose some weight. Louie is a wonderful dog with a nice disposition who would be a nice companion for someone
