    When: Saturday, July 25th
    12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Notes: For many reasons, the Dachshund races make sense at a Wisconsin German festival. The popular breed originates from Germany and actually means "Badger Dog" in German. Dachshunds were originally bred to hunt badgers, foxes and rabbits. Their small size and short legs enabled them to dig these animals out of their dens. Today, Doxies are among America's top five most popular dog breeds according to USA Today.

This year's wiener dog races will be at the same venue at German Fest on Saturday, July 25 from noon to 4 p.m. The planned activities at German Fest will include a Costume Contest at 1 p.m., A Blessing of the Doxies (both costumed and racers) will be at 3 p.m. with the actual races beginning at 3:15 p.m., and the Awards Ceremony at approximately 4:30 p.m. There will be five racing heats according to the dogs' ages, including puppies to one year; one- to three-year-olds, three to five years; six to eight years; and eight years and older. The final heat will include the winners from each race with a grand prize.
